Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans Your Fandom Escape by the Lake Cleveland ConCoction 2023 is thrilled to host Puente's Tijuana Tacos this year as one of our Food truck options! Mark and Laura Puente launched Puente’s Tijuana Tacos after visiting dozens of taco stands across Southern California in 2019 and 2020. The hallmark of Tijuana-style tacos is meat grilled over mesquite charcoal. Mark’s lifelong passion for meat smoking and grilling drove him to Tijuana-style tacos. Mark, an investigative reporter and former truck driver, visited carnicerias across Los Angeles to ask Mexican butchers about the best cuts of meat for Tijuana tacos. He also gathered insight from tacqueros at taco stands across Los Angeles. He brought those tips and cooking equipment from Los Angeles to the Cleveland area in 2021. Mark and Laura enlisted family members and friends to help spread the word about their brand of tacos across Northeast Ohio. Puente’s Tijuana Tacos have a unique taste like no other tacos in the area. puentestijuanatacos.com/ Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans
Your Fandom Escape by the Lake Everyone loves food. Everyone needs food. And we at ConCoction want you to have as many food
choices as possible when you join us for the weekend. So with that in mind, we will be having three local food trucks (or really two trucks and one pop up food vendor) at the con this year. Puentes Tijuana Tacos will be serving up their excellent Tijuana style tacos (which I’ve never had but look really kinda amazing). Best Damn Smoked Meats BBQ will be bringing the smoke and sauce. And The Real Chef’s Food Truck will be there as well. TRCFT has a sort of rolling/rotating menu, but decisions will be made soon as to what the con menu will be. You can find it on this blog and on our Facebook Stuffs. Over the next few days, pay attention to this page. There will be another post about each of these most excellent noms provider’s, including menus, so you know what you have to look forward to. WE ARE BACK!!! COVID couldn't keep us down forever. Cleveland ConCoction is thrilled to return in 2023. Your fannish escape by the lake will be happening March 17-19 2023 back at our favorite; The Bertram Inn and Convention Center in Aurora Ohio (https://thebertraminn.com/). So keep warm, keep safe, and keep watching this site for more details as we have them. The number to call is 330-995-0200. Mention the Con to receive the con price of $99.00 a night. That's for St.Patricks day weekend in March. So very excited to see everyone there! Hello ConCoctioneers - Instead of our usual witty banter and fun info about Guests and Games and other things that are happening in ConCoctionLand, this announcement is about a slightly more serious topic: ConCrud. If you’ve been to a con, any con, you’ve either had ConCrud or have heard about it. It’s real. And it sucks. Here’s the thing, there are a couple of bugs floating around this year that are potentially a bit worse than the average Crud. There is a nasty flu strain going around (H3I2) that was not included in most flu shots, and of course, there is COVID 19, also known as the new coronavirus. Currently our concerns are at about a two on a scale of one to ten; not overly high, but certainly worth consideration. These issues are on our radar and we’re talking about them. We’re aware of it, we’ve got some plans already in place, and are working on some additional things. We are working with The Bertram to make sure that there are hand sanitizer stations located throughout the hotel, as well as desktop sanitizer bottles at most of the fixed gathering locations. The hotel staff will be making additional checks in the bathrooms to make sure all soap dispensers are working and full. We will also have some moisturizing lotion available, because hand sanitizers can really dry your skin out. That’s some of what WE can do. Now, let’s talk about what YOU can do. It’s really simple. As much as we’d love to see you, if you’re sick, please stay home. Anyone that has preregistered for ConCoction who decides to stay home due to illness, and notifies us by noon on Thursday the 19th will be able to roll your registration and payment over to 2021. If you are joining us for the weekend, we ask that you please use extra diligence in proper hand-washing and use the sanitizers that are available often. If we all work together on these issues, we can ALL have an awesome time at Cleveland ConCoction 2020. Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans Your Fandom Escape by the Lake Greetings ConCoctioneers!!!!
Just a couple of quick announcements... First. You should really get a hotel room for the convention. It's only $94.00 per night (plus taxes and fees). Staying on site allows you to take part in all of the late night and early morning stuff. Plus, by getting a room, you are helping to support ConCoction and make it a better event. (Lotsa folks don't realize that the more room nights are actualized, the cheaper it is for us to rent the function space at the Bertram. We turn those savings around and invest them in the convention.) Go here to make a reservation: https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/trademark/aurora-ohio/the-bertram-inn-and-conference-center-a-trademark-collection-hotel Second, and going along with the abovementioned late night stuff. PARTIES. We like parties, and we know you like parties, too. We like parties so much that we have a dedicated wing at the Bertram just for that purpose; and, given the right set of circumstances, we will let you (or your organization) use one of the party suites for FREE. That's correct. I said FREE (it's in all caps, so you know I mean business about it). If you are interested in hosting a party at Cleveland ConCoction 2020, shoot me an email at [email protected] and we can talk about the process. Thanks, Eric Hogg Hotel Liaison Cleveland ConCoction From the Desk of The Hotel Liaison...
<all hail the hotel liaison> FINALLY!! The announcement many of you have been waiting for. The Hotel Room Block for Cleveland ConCoction is now open. <smattering of vague applause from the back of the room> To reserve your room simply follow this link: https://tinyurl.com/u2tdd4r A quick note about the above link. The default is set for staying Friday and Saturday nights. If you are changing that, say because you want to come in on Thursday night so you are fresh and ready for the opening of the con on Friday, or because you are only staying for one night (but, really, why would you want to do that), be sure to click the UPDATE button on the right after you make your preferred changes. Failure to do so will result in your reservation switching back to just Friday and Saturday. Thus leading to to confusion. Thus leading to a confused email from the Hotel Liaison (and nobody wants a confused Hotel Liaison. He gets cranky.) Thanks to all for your patience and I look forward to seeing you at ConCoction 2020!!!!! Link: Hotel Information Page Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans Your Fandom Escape by the Lake "Greetings ConCoctioneers! The ConCoction Volunteer Staff has been busy with another last minute date change going in to the 2020 membership year. As we stated during our "State of the Con" Q&A panel and "Closing Ceremonies" at Cleveland ConCoction 2019 we do not want to break up the local Community between two events. To that end Cleveland ConCoction 2020 has effectively moved to the third weekend in March - March 20-22, 2020. For those members who pre-registered their 2020 memberships at ConCoction 2019 and will now be unable to attend and would like a membership refund, send us an email with your name and registration information to [email protected] We will honor these requests until June 30th, 2019, no questions asked. We will be returning to The Bertram Hotel & Conference Center in Aurora, Ohio again in 2020 and look forward to being at this host site again. Pre-registration for Cleveland ConCoction's 2020 Convention is now open online and mail-in forms will be available soon for download online. Volunteer signups are also open for the 2020 year. Keep an eye on our website and social media for future Guest announcements and more! Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans
