 Good morning ConCoction-eers! 

Gaming will open promptly at noon today, after registration opens at 10am in... 

Wait... what.... there's no registration this year?  

They went home??  But, we have all these people here... 

....what.... 

Open to the public?  Membership not required.... ?? 

Well, if you say so, then that's what we'll do!  

That's right - this year's virtual ConCoction doesn't require you to go anywhere, nor be a member. 

What it does require is an internet connection, access to our Facebook event, access to YouTube, access to Vimeo, and a want to have and share fun with others! 

So, keep an eye on our Facebook events and this blog for further updates... 

Oh!   And the cosplay contest is open for submissions, but not for too much longer...  so get those cosplays out and send them in!

Our Online Cosplay Contests will be happening THIS Saturday, March 21.


Here's how they're going to work:

Folks who want to enter the contest just have to get dressed up, take a photo in the Cosplay, and email it to us. (We're working on the honor system here folks. This is all for fun. Please don't send in something from a previous con or contest) There will be a 48 hour window for those emailed photos to come in. 2:00 pm Eastern on Wednesday March 18 through 2:00 pm on Friday March 20.

There will actually be two contests. 
One is the fan poll (see below) and the other will be a celebrity judging. 
Cosplay Guests Knightmage and Mogchelle, as well as past winner Annye Driscoll, have all offered to help, so their decision will be the second contest


Requirements: Not many; as stated above, this is for fun. However, if response does get really heavy, We're probably going to have to cap participation at around 100 .

One entry per person, please.



THIS IS A KID FRIENDLY CONTEST.

On Saturday, all of the photos will be posted here in the event and a poll will be created for voting. ANYONE who wants to can vote for up to three.
The poll will stay live for the duration of the event.

Whoever gets the most votes wins.

We are still working on whether or not there will be prizes. I'm trying to get something small together, but no promises on that end.

The tech told us to "turn the convention system off, wait 20 seconds, then turn it back on again." They said that would do the trick. 


So...  we've seemed to run into a... convention system error?? ... but we'll have it online soon!!  


Once we get the system back up and running this weekend we will certainly let you know that it's indeed live. 


In the meantime, there is now a Facebook Event for our Virtual Cosplay Contest happening Saturday 10a-4pm on Facebook in our Facebook Event. We'll have more information on the Cosplay fun soon!

Each year the amazing Cleveland ConCoction team of Volunteers works their hardest to do right by friends, family, and fans that come together for our event in Northeast, Ohio. We strive to create a community and a place for all of us to gather, be ourselves and make memories with those who matter to you most. 


We have been closely monitoring the situation around the COVID-19 coronavirus in Ohio, and after seemingly endless hours of conversation internally, as well as consultation with the hotel management and local government officials, we have decided that we must cancel next weekend’s Cleveland ConCoction 2020 Convention (Cleveland ConCoction 7).  

We did absolutely everything that we could to run the event as planned, but ultimately, we are following the guidance of the local public health officials indicating that “mass gatherings” should now be avoided. While this was a heart-wrenching decision, the ongoing public health emergency simply makes it impossible for the event to go forward as planned. Neither are we able to postpone or reschedule for later in the year. Have no fear, however, as we will certainly be back in 2021!


Our hearts go out to the entire Cleveland ConCoction Community, and everyone impacted by the COVID-19 virus. Our team was incredibly excited to see you at ConCoction next week, however, you all (presenters, fans, artists, vendors, game masters, and more) are what makes our community so very special - after all we are “By the Fans, for the Fans”, and your happiness, health and safety are our first priority. 


We know that this decision will greatly impact many of our individual creators, small businesses and service workers. To those whose careers depend on events like Cleveland ConCoction - we will do everything that we can over the coming days and weeks to highlight your work and we ask that our entire community support you as we realize your personal livelihoods will likely be impacted by our event and others.  


To all of our members – we will be contacting pre-registered members regarding refunds, roll overs, and pre-registration for 2021. We appreciate your patience and understanding. All reservations under the hotel block will be automatically cancelled.  There will be no need to contact The Bertram in order to cancel your reservations for this event.


Cleveland ConCoction is resolutely determined to return in 2021 and we are working closely with The Bertram Inn and Conference Center in Aurora. As soon as possible we will open early pre-registration online as there will not be the possibility of a Sunday onsite membership pre-registration this year. 

We sincerely appreciate all the messages that we have received over the course of the past week. Your questions, comments and feedback and support were valuable in helping us to come to this decision.

A Statement from 2020 Emcee Guest, Vladimir Snape - 


Due to increased cases of COVID-19 and the CDC issuing a statement that immunocompromised persons should avoid flights,  I've decided to put my health 1st.
  
It is with great regret that I won't be able to attend this year but I'm hopeful they'll have me back in the years to come.

Hello ConCoctioneers - 

Instead of our usual witty banter and fun info about Guests and Games and other things that are happening in ConCoctionLand, this announcement is about a slightly more serious topic:

ConCrud.

If you’ve been to a con, any con, you’ve either had ConCrud or have heard about it.  It’s real. And it sucks.
Here’s the thing, there are a couple of bugs floating around this year that are potentially a bit worse than the average Crud.  There is a nasty flu strain going around (H3I2) that was not included in most flu shots, and of course, there is COVID 19, also known as the new coronavirus.
Currently our concerns are at about a two on a scale of one to ten; not overly high, but certainly worth consideration.  These issues are on our radar and we’re talking about them.
We’re aware of it, we’ve got some plans already in place, and are working on some additional things.


We are working with The Bertram to make sure that there are hand sanitizer stations located throughout the hotel, as well as desktop sanitizer bottles at most of the fixed gathering locations.  The hotel staff will be making additional checks in the bathrooms to make sure all soap dispensers are working and full. We will also have some moisturizing lotion available, because hand sanitizers can really dry your skin out.
That’s some of what WE can do.  


Now, let’s talk about what YOU can do.

It’s really simple.  As much as we’d love to see you, if you’re sick, please stay home.  Anyone that has preregistered for ConCoction who decides to stay home due to illness, and notifies us by noon on Thursday the 19th will be able to roll your registration and payment over to 2021.  
If you are joining us for the weekend, we ask that you please use extra diligence in proper hand-washing and use the sanitizers that are available often.

If we all work together on these issues, we can ALL have an awesome time at Cleveland ConCoction 2020.
