Why DEI is important: “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations” - Vulcan Philosophy There’s been a lot of talk in the news about DEI programs lately, and we wanted to let you know that Cleveland ConCoction is a DEI-heavy organization. We have Dragons, Elves, and Ichthyocentaurs; Death-Rays, Empaths, and Ion-Drives; and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion as well. As a fan-run Sci-FI/Fantasy con, we love to explore a whole multiverse of possibilities, and we want to make sure all of our ConContioneers are staying safe while doing so. As such, we want to be crystal clear that we stand against discrimination in all its many forms, including racism, sexism, normalism (body shaming) and other variations on fear and hate. We are dedicated to fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all of our fellow nerd culture; regardless of race, gender, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or expression. Together we hope to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community that celebrates our similarities and differences in a positive manner. Sci-Fi and Fantasy stories often show us worlds where we have overcome hate to build a better world, and they also show us worlds where hate and discrimination win out. It doesn’t go so well for those dystopian folks. At ConCoction, we choose to follow the path of positivity going forward. (We are also a certified 501(c)3 non-profit organization at both the State and Federal levels, so it’s literally illegal for us to discriminate.) So come on out and join our human-horse-fish hybrids and all the other mix and match Sci-Fi/Fantasy ConCoctions at our Con. This year we’re mashing up the 40th anniversary of both “Back to the Future” and “Super Mario Brothers” as we “Race Back to the Castle!” to save our beloved .. well.. Whatever really. Great Scott! See you in March! Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans
Your Fandom Escape by the Lake Cleveland ConCoction 2024 COVID-19 Policy
*THIS POLICY MAY CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE* One of the highest priorities of the ConCoction staff is the health and well being of our members, volunteers, and yes, ourselves. Upon looking at current trends and local health official recommendations, our leadership team has made the decision to make ConCoction 2024 a mask optional event. While it has long been the policy that pre-registrations to Cleveland ConCoction have been non-refundable, we are now looking at that through a very different lens. We’ve all experienced con crud at some time in our lives; however, con crud looks vastly different than it did prior to COVID-19. With that it mind, we are going to ask that if you are sick, or feel like you might be getting, please stay home. If you are pre-registered we will either issue a refund or roll your membership over to next year. As much as we’d love see you, we would rather give you your money back than risk an outbreak of any type of virus at ConCoction. *THIS POLICY MAY CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE* Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans Your Fandom Escape by the Lake The Staff and Volunteers at Cleveland ConCoction are still taking COVID-19 seriously. However, we also realize that the pandemic is slowly inching closer to being an endemic, and we cannot stay inside forever. We believe in the science and the effectiveness of vaccines and masking as the best way to curb the spread of COVID-19. In those lines Cleveland ConCoction 2023 will be a masked event.
There are only two situations in which participants will be allowed to be unmasked: If you are actively consuming food or beverage; or, if you are fully vaccinated and are willing to show proof of that at registration. (We define fully vaccinated as having received at least two doses of an approved vaccine completed at least two weeks before the con. Acceptable proof will be a vaccination card, or picture of, or a link on your phone to a medical record). Anyone who provides proof of vaccination at registration will receive a wristband which must be worn during the convention. Anyone found in violation of this policy will be given a verbal warning on first offense. A second violation will result in removal from the convention for the remainder of the weekend with no refund or recourse. Individual presenters in programming or gamemasters in gaming or artists/authors/vendors in their respective areas all have the option of requiring masks with no exceptions if they so choose. *This Policy is up for consistent review and may change as the local COVID-19 rates change.* Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans Your Fandom Escape by the Lake |
