The Volunteers and Friends here at Cleveland ConCoction 2020 welcome Dean Donofrio & ErinRose Widner of Meeple People Comedy. Meeple People is a comedy web series about a group of eclectic geeks in their 30s who come together for a weekly game night in a suburb of Ohio. While they have little in common professionally or personally, these social misfits find a true kinship through their love of strategy board games. It’s about shamelessly indulging in the joys of childhood, while learning how to embrace your inner grownup. And it’s about friendship, because when you find your people, you find yourself. To learn more about Dean, Erin and the Meeple People, be sure to visit them at Cleveland ConCoction 2020 and check out their Guest Page on our website! Through those efforts we raised $13.33 towards ConCoction's events and community efforts. Combined with the prior quarters, we raised just over $32 for the year of 2019 through smile.amazon.com. It might not seem like much, but every little bit helps an all volunteer run organization like ours. If you would like to donate to us in the future in this way, please choose our group through Amazon's search functions. If you'd like to donate to us directly you can use the PayPal donate button on the front page of our website. Cleveland ConCoction - By the Fans, For the Fans Your Fandom Escape by the Lake We have a few changes and additions in Gaming this year and I wanted to share them with you!
First, I am excited to announce that for the first time, we will have video games in The Lair! This year we will have Mario Kart, Mario Party, Boom Blox, Smash Brothers, and some other multi-player titles available for play in gaming. We will also have an Oculus Quest available for play running Beat Saber, Fruit Ninja, and Space Pirate Trainer. As usual, these are all free of charge with you ConCoction Membership, although we do suggest a donation as all profits from the video game area will be donated to Extra Life. All players will need to leave a state or federally issued ID with the game room attendant in order to play. Video gaming will extend into our Gaming After Dark program. Join us after 10pm for a series of Jackbox games. Join as a contestant or watch as an audience member. These games are incredibly funny and include titles such as You Don’t Know Jack, Fibbage XL, Drawful, Trivia Murder Party, and Tee KO. Games are nice and short so they’re the perfect way to spend time waiting for your turn at Fruit Ninja. We’ve also made some changes to our Play-To-Win policy. Starting this year, you will only receive an entry to win a game the first time you play it. You are welcome to play a game more than once if you desire, but whether you play it once or a hundred times, you will only get one entry into the drawing to win that game. The publishers who donate these games to us hope that you’ll spread the love and play all of their games, and we think this new policy will help make that happen. We’ve also decided on a blanket limit of 3 wins per badge number, regardless of whether that badge is held by a board member, staff member, volunteer, or regular attendee. We will still have review slips for the games as we have had in previous years. Please make sure you fill them out legibly and indicate whether you want to take the game home with you in the spot indicated. Also, as in previous years, winners need to be present in order to collect their prize, or have a designated proxy with their badge present. We cannot ship or hold games for winners due to time and cost. Next, The Lair is proud to announce that we’ll have Dean Donofrio and ErinRose Widner from the hit YouTube series “Meeple People,” with us this year! If you have not seen the series, I highly recommend it. The episodes are all 3-7 minutes in length, and I found them hilariously accurate. Dean and ErinRose will be playing “Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig” and invite you to join them in a game after their panels Saturday for a chance to win one of two copies. It’s a great game and they’re both incredibly nice and talented people. I’m sure you’ll have a blast! In other news, gaming still needs volunteers. If you would like to earn a partial or even full refund of your membership this year, please contact me at [email protected] and let me know you want to volunteer in gaming. Being a part of the gaming team is not only fun, it is also rewarding as you’ll be able to skip the lines in registration and get your badge & swag bag directly from the Gaming Area. I also tend to spoil my team a bit, but shhhh, don’t tell anyone. Greetings ConCoctioneers!!!!
Just a couple of quick announcements... First. You should really get a hotel room for the convention. It's only $94.00 per night (plus taxes and fees). Staying on site allows you to take part in all of the late night and early morning stuff. Plus, by getting a room, you are helping to support ConCoction and make it a better event. (Lotsa folks don't realize that the more room nights are actualized, the cheaper it is for us to rent the function space at the Bertram. We turn those savings around and invest them in the convention.) Go here to make a reservation: https://www.wyndhamhotels.com/trademark/aurora-ohio/the-bertram-inn-and-conference-center-a-trademark-collection-hotel Second, and going along with the abovementioned late night stuff. PARTIES. We like parties, and we know you like parties, too. We like parties so much that we have a dedicated wing at the Bertram just for that purpose; and, given the right set of circumstances, we will let you (or your organization) use one of the party suites for FREE. That's correct. I said FREE (it's in all caps, so you know I mean business about it). If you are interested in hosting a party at Cleveland ConCoction 2020, shoot me an email at [email protected] and we can talk about the process. Thanks, Eric Hogg Hotel Liaison Cleveland ConCoction |
